VOGUE
Q&A

The answers to some frequently asked questions have been listed below.

WHAT DOES THE CHARTER FEE INCLUDE?

The ‘Vessel & Crew only’ charter rates listed are based on MYBA Terms. MYBA Terms state that the vessel is supplied for charter with all its equipment in full working order, with a professional crew (whose wages, uniform and food is taken care of by the owner) and with insurance for the vessel & crew endorsed for chartering. Bedding, bath towels, recreational towels and home moorings are also included in the charter fee.

WHAT IS THE APA?

‘APA’ stands for Advanced Provisioning Allowance. The APA is 30% of the charter fee to cover all extras (as listed below). Should any part of this allowance (APA) not be used, the funds are returned to the charterer. Conversely, if there is a shortfall, the charterer is expected to correct this.
The skipper will keep all receipts for the client’s inspection before departure. The ‘account’, which shows how much has been spent and on what, will be signed by the charterer when departing the vessel.

WHAT EXTRAS DO WE HAVE TO PAY FOR?

For ‘vessel and crew only’ MYBA Term charters, you would have to pay – at cost – for all other operating expenses from the APA. These include, but are not limited to, shore side transport, fuel for the main engines and generators; fuel for tenders and water sports equipment; food and beverages for the Charterer’s Party; berthing dues and other harbor charges including pilots’ fees, local taxes, divers’ fees, customs formalities and any charges for waste disposal, charges for water and electricity taken from shore; ship agents’ fees where applicable; personal laundry; Charter Party communications including internet use and hire or purchase costs of any special equipment placed onboard at the Charterer’s request.

Crew gratuities are also extra to the charter rate (Please see ‘How much should we tip? Q 07 for more details on this).

WHAT IS MYBA?

MYBA is the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association and is a worldwide professional trade association founded in 1984 by a group of prominent yacht brokers with the aim of promoting standards of professionalism and ethics in the yachting industry throughout the Mediterranean, and ultimately, worldwide.

A deposit of 50% of the total charter fee is payable by bank transfer on signature of the Charter Agreement, this confirms your booking. The remaining 50%, plus the Advance Provisioning Allowance, together with any taxes, delivery/redelivery fees and any additionally agreed charges, is payable by bank transfer one month prior to the charter start date.

HOW MUCH SHOULD WE TIP?

The question often arises ‘how much?’ Our reply is that this should reflect the standard of service you have received, remembering that the crew are on duty before you wake and after you retire. We suggest in the region of 10%. However, you may have received exceptional service and in such case, decide that a higher gratuity be made. We suggest that you hand whatever sum you wish to make to the captain to be distributed to all members of the crew.
